Unawatuna is a picturesque fishing village close to Galle and a major tourist attraction in Sri Lanka , famous for its stunning coastline and corals. It is a suburb of Galle, about 3 kilometres southeast to the city center and approximately 108 kilometres south of Colombo,  and with  the new Southern Expressway, which has halved travel time to only one hour to Colombo and 90 minutes to the airport, by train its 3 hours to Unawatuna railway station

In addition to it's beautiful beaches, it offers a large selection of shops, bars and restaurants from high end luxury through to local charm. Surfing grows in popularity every year here and there are breaks up and down the coast to suit all levels.

Many buses run all day long along the coast in both Galle, Colombo and Matara directions. Tuk tuk drivers are always waiting in front, if you wish we can also arrange one. There are many scooter rentals along the Unawatuna road.

Unawatuna beach is protected by a natural reef from the open sea and due to the semicircle shape of it forms a perfect natural swimming pool with aquamarine colour gentle waves crashing on the golden sandy beach.Unawatuna Beach was named the world’s best beach by The Discovery Channel in 2004. That may be a stretch today, but Unawatuna is undoubtedly the best beach in Sri Lanka-none other offers the same combination of golden sand, a protected bay that offers the country’s best swimming, the famed beauty of the headland with its temple and sunset, and the laid back atmosphere of Unawatuna.

The UNESCO world heritage site of Galle Fort is 15 minutes away. Head inland and you can explore miles of beautiful paddy fields or head further afield to Sinarhaja Rain Forrest which is a couple of hours away.
